MelancholyWaves - A Blog about Depression
This blog was created through inspiration. A Spiritual Journey toward healing was the catalyst for its creation. The author is a Master’s Level Social Worker, experienced in research and medical social work; also experienced in a lifelong battle with debilitating Depression.
Depression is the leading cause of Disability in the United States and affects almost 10% of the population, or 19 million Americans, in a given year. Yet our society continues to stigmatize the illness and often it is thought to be a “weakness of character” or a selfish, self-centered intentional affliction. The main focus of this Blog, MeloncholyWaves, is to bust the stigma wide-open, give hope to the hopeless, post the latest research findings on Depression and encourage victims of Depression and their loved ones to get help for the condition. It is treatable! It is real! It is a biopsychosocial-spiritual illness. That is, it affects the body, mind, and spirit, as well as the surrounding society or environment. MelonCholyWaves, a blog about depression aims to inform, connect, and heal through the spiritual internet, those folks who are affected by this killer-condition. This site can benefit both the ‘identified patient’ and the sometimes-sick individuals or systems that surround them. Unfortunately, two-thirds of those who are depressed never seek treatment and suffer painful repercussions of their denial. 80%-90% of those who seek treatment for depression report improvement in the condition and in their lives; some even find relief in a few weeks when the correct course of treatment is adopted. It is our aim, here at MelancholyWaves.Com to be a positive part of your healing journey. We welcome your input and personal stories of experience, strength, and hope. Alone, I am depressed - WE can recover!
